A Thousand Splendid Suns

Khaled Hosseini's tear-jerking novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, is not only a spectacular follow-up to The Kite Runner, but it is also a more gripping and heart-touching book.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is the story of two Afghani women that are polar opposites and the bond they form. This bond is formed in an unimaginable way to Westerners. The two women, Mariam and Laila, are married to the same man, both unwillingly.

Mariam was raised without a truly loving father and with a mother that was full of hate for all men. Laila was raised in a very Westernized family with very liberal views of what Afghanistan should be.

They are tied together by a barbaric husband who physically and emotionally assaults them.

Reading A Thousand Splendid Suns was eye-opening and an emotional rollercoaster.
